Saturday: Fish and chips, and a Pimm's cup on the roof of the stunning new Nomad Hotel with Lauren on an amazingly beautiful day.
Sunday: Central Park, the Highline and orecchiette with one of my favorite Oakland families on an equally lovely day.
Also, taught 4 year-olds how to hail a cab.

GRUMPY + grumpy
This is Grumpy - I guess he is some sort of monster-ish being (evil rabbit? ambivalent horned creature?), but I liked that he is creepy cute (in an Ugly doll kinda way). He's for Baby B, who is due very soon!
Please note the kooky tail. I had some yarn left over, so I made a matching hat (uh, for the baby).

Made by me - no pattern, I just made it up. Sorry!

a bevy of baby gifts
With all the babies being born lately, I have become a one-woman-baby-gift-making-machine. Baby girl Dorrance received a matching booties and bonnet set (above and below).
Owen got this hat for those harsh Chicago winters:
Jack got a pair of green booties:
And baby O'Neill got this gender neutral hat:

People! Stop procreating! I can't keep up!

portraiture
Jeff brought this portrait home recently, drawn for him by a young patron at work. The resemblance is uncanny:

Who says you never win anything? I just found out that I am the winner of the Chronicle Books Creature pack giveaway from Apartment Therapy. Yea!

date night

I'm still getting organized from a busy weekend of running errands, shopping and getting our apartment in order. In the meantime, this is my favorite photo from the blogosphere this weekend - my friend's daughter excited to see her all dressed up for a date with her husband. So sweet!

maker faire

I lost what was left of my voice working the booth at the Maker Faire on Saturday. I wish I had felt a little better as there was so much to see there - way more than I had originally anticipated, including innovative rides (above) and Victorian-inspired Steampunk cars:

Maybe knitted poo isn't for everyone, but I thought it was hilarious (forgive the use of Papyrus):

I'm always a fan of seeing ArtCars, such as Mercedes Pens:

and the candy house:

This 20' sculpture (the photos don't do it justice) was made entirely of used soda bottles:

valentine's crafting extravaganza

We hosted a classroom of second graders from Flynn Elementary at work yesterday for a valentine's card making workshop based on the Fuzzy Octopus card from Handmade Hellos. The kids were hilarious! Here are some of their creations:
