I have no personal connection to ballet or dancing, but this movie really impacted me emotionally. Go see it!

kings of pastry

Kings of Pastry follows the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France competition, held once every four years. This grueling three day event crowns four winners of the sixteen contestants to be the "best craftsman in France" and includes six foot sugar sculptures, wedding cakes and countless petit fours. It's emotional and intense - a really fascinating look into another world.

Last night I saw one of my favorite movies for free in the park.

Summer, don't ever end.

herb & dorothy

Herb & Dorothy is a documentary chronicling the inspirational life of the Vogels, who collected one of the most important collections of minimal and conceptual art. Of meager means, they lived on Dorothy's salary (a librarian) while using Herb's income (a postal worker) to purchase work. They had two rules - the piece had to be affordable, and it had to fit into their one bedroom Manhattan apartment. By the time the documentary was made in 2008, their collection had grown to over four thousand works. In 1992, they donated their entire collection to the National Gallery.

v is for valentino

If you haven't seen Valentino, The Last Emperor yet, stop whatever you are doing and remedy the situation immediately. It's beautiful, fascinating and totally inspiring. If you have any interest in fashion, travel, craft, entrepreneurship, glamorous people or places, or private chateaus in France, then this movie will move and inspire you.
The movie is currently out on DVD. Watch the trailer here.

(500) days of summer

I'm a little late to the game on this one, but I just watched (500) Days of Summer, which was inspiring for two reasons. First off, could Zooey Deschanel's clothes be any cuter? Did you notice that she was always in blue? I died over the vintage dress she wears to her co-workers wedding (below).

Also, almost the entire movie takes place in downtown Los Angeles, which just looks stunning. I'm totally into revisiting some spots I haven't been to in years, like the Bradbury Building, Angel's Knoll, Fine Arts building, and Angel's Flight.

earth to cameron

This has been all over the blogs, but it's too fantastic not to post. If you happen to have $2.3 million laying around, the fabulous mid-century modern home from Ferris Bueller's Day Off can be yours! Located just outside of Chicago, the home was designed by A. James Speyer and David Haid in 1953 and is full of beautiful modern details. A shame it was only used for the garage in the movie (above)!

BTW, my favorite scene in the movie is where Charlie Sheen asks Jennifer Grey what her name is at the police station, and she responds with:
"My name is Jeannie, but my friends call me Shauna."

Awesome.
