recent thrift store treasures

I'd been looking for a marquetry wood painting for years - they were either vastly out of my price range or the subject matter wasn't to my liking (lots of churches), so I was pretty excited when I found this one for twenty bucks at a thrift shop in Manhattan. My other recent finds included an orange blouse from the Brooklyn Flea...

time travel posters

The 826 LA storefront, the Echo Park Time Travel Mart, is so clever and well-thought out, I didn't know where to look first. These retro inspired posters were especially fantastic.

herb & dorothy

Herb & Dorothy is a documentary chronicling the inspirational life of the Vogels, who collected one of the most important collections of minimal and conceptual art. Of meager means, they lived on Dorothy's salary (a librarian) while using Herb's income (a postal worker) to purchase work. They had two rules - the piece had to be affordable, and it had to fit into their one bedroom Manhattan apartment. By the time the documentary was made in 2008, their collection had grown to over four thousand works. In 1992, they donated their entire collection to the National Gallery.

plate wall

Over the weekend my sister and I created a plate wall for her new apartment, inspired by this one. We used a mixture of new and thrifted plates (the new ones came from Anthropologie and American Rag) and if we weren't so particular about it, the whole thing would have taken under an hour to put up.
Pretty cute, huh?!
