I stopped by AIGA/NY on my lunch break today to see their poster exhibit commemorating 30 years of the chapter. I can't find very many images online, so you'll just have to check it out in person.

As I mentioned before, my sister got married at the end of last year. The wedding took place at an old bank in downtown LA and was so so fun. More photos and details here and here.

As the matron-of-honor, my only requirement was to wear something navy. Since I abide by somewhat strict buying practices, I was a little limited in my options. I found this navy satin dress a couple weeks before at one of my favorite vintage shops in Brooklyn (for $18!):

transit museum: advertisments

The main attraction of the Transit Museum were the old subway cars complete with advertisements from their particular era. I went a little crazy with the photos but the ads are too great not to. I mean, "84 out of 100 women prefer men who wear hats"?

Have you ever been to the Transit Museum? Its easily now become one of my favorite museums in NYC - totally fascinating and so much to see! We took the free guided tour (let by a subway conductor) which I highly recommend. The museum is located in Brooklyn's Court Street station (which is no longer used) and features all the different styles of cars used throughout the years.

The graphic design alone is worth a visit - stay tuned for another post on the advertisements.

good show: best of

In general, the show was a bit underwhelming, but there were definitely some treasures in the mix, like the Blue State and Tim Gunn cards from La Familia Green, as well as these beets from Pie Bird Press.

The show ended yesterday and to be honest, I'm relieved its over. Although I love seeing friends and all the amazing inspiring design work, it felt a lot more exhausting this year than in previous years. I just wrote a post about our booth for work if you are interested.

national stationery show

The National Stationery Show starts today! I'll be in booth 1536 representing H!L as usual. I'm especially looking forward to seeing friends, and checking out what new products people have. I'm also determined to visit ICFF this year - I never seem to be able to make it all the way downstairs!

vintage typewriter prints

So, it's pretty much killing me that I can't start unpacking and decorating my new apartment. I find that I am missing the most random things - certain pairs of shoes, furniture and crafting supplies seem to be on the top of the list. I'm also determined not to buy anything until I know if we can fit our existing possessions into the apartment. I kinda love this vintage typewriter poster though - and it would be so cute in my new office (especially since I got rid of my real typewriter when we moved)....this one might be my favorite:

While I was out picking up dinner last night, I walked by the Monocle store and noticed these travel posters in their shop. Aren't they great?

productivity hits a low

To be perfectly honest, I don't really have a hard time staying focused during the day, but sometimes I do end up sitting at the computer much longer than necessary - just replace "twitter" with "g-chat to co-workers" and "facebook" with "google reader" and this is pretty much how I spend the majority of my non-working hours.

Oh, and for those who keep harassing me to join Facebook - this is why I can't!
