the train show!

We took a family field trip to see the Holiday Train Show on a drizzly Sunday afternoon, followed by dinner on Arthur Avenue.

duke farms, part 1

Duke Farms, located in Hillsborough, New Jersey, is the largest privately owned parcel of land in the state. The Duke family purchased the 2200 acre farmland at the turn of the century and spent about $10 million developing the landscape, creating lakes, hills and other topography.

Plans were made and begun for a large mansion on the property. A two level basement was built, but the house was never completed. You can still see evidence of the original foundation.

The farm can be visited for free and includes 18 miles of walking and biking paths. More information can be found here.

floral wallpaper

Inspired by this pin, I used my leftover halloween costume to make floral(ish) wallpaper. It didn't come out nearly as good as my book wallpaper, but it adds an interesting element to my otherwise bland and random office.

Sorry for the crap photos! There's no window in this room which makes shooting anything look terrible.

cherry blossoms

The temperature reached non-tights wearing degrees this weekend, so it seemed downright criminal not to be outside. To celebrate, we visited the cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

As I mentioned before, my sister got married at the end of last year. The wedding took place at an old bank in downtown LA and was so so fun. More photos and details here and here.

As the matron-of-honor, my only requirement was to wear something navy. Since I abide by somewhat strict buying practices, I was a little limited in my options. I found this navy satin dress a couple weeks before at one of my favorite vintage shops in Brooklyn (for $18!):

wave hill gardens

We took a short train ride on my favorite Metro-North line (also, the only one I've ever taken) to visit Wave Hill Gardens in the Bronx this past weekend. The weather in New York has been so amazing lately that it seemed criminal not to be outdoors. Wave Hill was just beginning to show signs of spring, so I can only imagine how lovely it will be when things really start blooming in a few weeks.

the train show!

One of the main attractions at the New York Botanical Garden was its annual Holiday Train show, featuring replicas of major New York city and state landmarks made out of nuts, bark, leaves and other plant material (and a whole lot of hot glue). Fun!

My goal to visit all five boroughs was completed this weekend with a trip to the lovely New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. It's fun to have seasons - look at all those leaves!
