jumpsuits

Image from here.
Random, but what are our thoughts on jumpsuits? I think they are kinda cute...although potentially very annoying when you have to pee. Thoughts?

short gray boots

I'm in the market for some short gray boots. So far, the top contenders include this cap-toed pair (above), this two toned pair:
A not-quite-as-cute version of the former:
This boot-ish style:
Completely-out-of-my-price-range pair (but so cute!):
Buckled version:
Hmmmm...likey?

some thoughts on decorating

A good friend is moving and requested that I do a post on paint colors. As a designer, the most difficult thing for me is looking at a blank screen. I need inspiration, visuals and/or a concept in order to produce anything viable...and the same goes for decorating. Here are a couple of my favorite sources for home decor inspiration:
Magazines: Sadly, Domino is no longer. However, there is a dedicated Flickr pool with over 500 images, as well as a number of stories and slide shows on the Brides website. Elle Decor, Dwell and House Beautiful are also good (and still in print!).
Blogs: There are way too many amazing decorating blogs to mention, but some of my favorites include Little Green Notebook, sneak peeks at Design*Sponge, Remodelista, and the ridiculously resourceful Apartment Therapy.
Online magazines: It seems like there is a new online magazine every week. My current favorites are Lonny and Rue.

My number one recommendation with decorating is to take your time. Hopefully, you'll be living in your space for at least a little bit, so pick items, colors and pieces that you love....and have fun!

v is for valentino

If you haven't seen Valentino, The Last Emperor yet, stop whatever you are doing and remedy the situation immediately. It's beautiful, fascinating and totally inspiring. If you have any interest in fashion, travel, craft, entrepreneurship, glamorous people or places, or private chateaus in France, then this movie will move and inspire you.
The movie is currently out on DVD. Watch the trailer here.

tights

I love fun tights, but now that I live in Southern California they are fairly unnecessary....but how cute are the above pairs (although they aren't sold in the US - damn you France for your adorable yet unattainable items!)?! Closer to home, there are plenty of cute ones too, like these:

lost underground art show

I'm usually not a big tv watcher, but I love LOST. Unfortunately, I just found out about the now closed LOST underground art show at Gallery 1988 but here are some of my favorite pieces...it will have to tide me over until February 2nd when the last season premieres!

want

I visited the Linus bicycle shop this weekend and now I want one something fierce.

measure up

One of the architects I hung out with this weekend was wearing a fantastic ruler-inspired ring, which reminded me of these bracelets from artist LeeAnn Herreid.

Available here.

maker faire

I lost what was left of my voice working the booth at the Maker Faire on Saturday. I wish I had felt a little better as there was so much to see there - way more than I had originally anticipated, including innovative rides (above) and Victorian-inspired Steampunk cars:

Maybe knitted poo isn't for everyone, but I thought it was hilarious (forgive the use of Papyrus):

I'm always a fan of seeing ArtCars, such as Mercedes Pens:

and the candy house:

This 20' sculpture (the photos don't do it justice) was made entirely of used soda bottles:

color and trend

I am a little late on this, but Pantone recently announced that "mimosa" is the color of 2009. Fun!

Personally, I am predicting pale pink and navy as another new trend. Mark my words....
