carnegie hall

It's been awhile since I've done something really "new york-y" so I was excited to visit Carnegie Hall. While the show was pretty incredible, I also enjoyed the Rose Museum which showcased some incredible gems from the venue's one hundred and twenty year history.

summer jams

I'm rediscovering the beauty of the outdoor concert. So far, I've seen Wilco, Lee Fields (above), Patrick Watson and Neko Case - all awesome.

the great googa mooga

Jeff and I spent yesterday at the first annual Googa Mooga festival of music, food and wine (it's the same producer as Outside Lands). Although the festival was a bit disorganized, we both enjoyed performances by Hall & Oates (above), a Q&A with Anthony Bourdain, bacon wrapped hot dogs and lots and lots of wine.

natural history museum

The Natural History Museum hosts a concert series on the first Friday of every month, aptly named First Fridays. Co-hosted with KCRW, the band sets up in the African Hall while the North American Hall serves as a bar. The museum is open late and doesn't look any different from when I last visited, which was probably twenty years ago.
The gem room was always my favorite though.

downtown adventure day: part four

The last stop of the day (well, the last stop that I took decent photos of) was the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. Its a fairly imposing structure, so its probably best to let the photos speak for themselves.
A ton more photos here.

bagels and bongos

There was an exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum called "Jews on Vinyl," exploring the history of Jewish recorded music from the 1940s to the 1980s. I'm not sure this is going to funny to anyone that isn't a Jew (or married to one) but I thought the titles and covers of the albums were hilarious.

This one is my favorite.
