As part of my goal to visit all the museums in New York City, this one was a no brainer. Museum is a curated rotating collection of items housed in a freight elevator in an alley in Tribeca. Each object was selected purposely (you can learn more by calling a listed phone number and punching in the items' number). The collection changes every four months and it's highly worth a visit.

philadelphia: magic gardens
One of my new coworkers suggested I visit the Magic Gardens, and for someone who doesn't know me that well, he hit it right on the money. The Magic Gardens are a creation of one man (still living) over the course of fourteen years. The closest comparison I can make is to the Watts Towers, which clearly served as inspiration since creator Isaiah Zagar added an ode to Simon Rodia (see below). Other than that, it's fairly hard to describe - this is one where the photos really do tell the story.

Your eyes do not deceive you - this is indeed a christmas tree made from PBR cans, metro cards and tennis shoes.

birth-date, day 1, part 2
After our lunch on the beach, we headed back over the bridge to Dead Horse Bay, a rather unpleasant name for a most unusual place. It was once a horse rendering plant (hence the name) which later became a landfill. In the 1950's the cap of the landfill exploded and today the beach is filled with remnants of that explosion (I realize this sounds disgusting, and it's not for everyone, but I thought it was cool).

a royal find
There I was, just taking my daily walk through the neighborhood, on the phone with Anna, when I saw a stack of suitcases by the curb. Never one to shy away from other people's garbage, I poked through and saw this number - a 60's (?) era Royal typewriter! I can't believe someone was going to throw this away! Now I just need to know where to get ribbon, and the investigative reporting can begin!
