I've been buying the best dates at the farmers market recently and been talking for weeks about making date bars. This weekend I put my money where my mouth is (a rare event) and actually made them for the election party I'll be attending this evening.
I think I managed to overcook them a bit (a common occurrence, apparently). They came out pretty tasty, a bit dry. The recipe came from The Joy of Cooking, which my father gave me when I moved into my first apartment eleven years ago (eek!).

I am the lucky taste taster for Shauna and these date bars were her best! I even had a dream about them.
