Because We Can is a super inspiring design-build studio in West Oakland, which I was lucky enough to visit this afternoon (for another project - more on that later). A design-build studio means that they design and build all sorts of amazing furniture, objects, homewares and display pieces for both residential and commercial clients. In my ongoing effort to not buy new items, I've been doing a fair amount of reusing - like unraveling some of the less successful knitting projects of the past in order to reuse the yarn for something else.
For example, the circa-2003 poncho (I swear, they were very cool at the time):

stitches west

I had my virgin visit to Stitches West this past weekend (apologies for the delay in posting) a visual feast of yarn and knitting memorabilia with a smattering of fanny packs and fun fur mixed in. It probably would have been a more successful experience if I had a specific project in mind, but I am still glad I went.

I just got home from Stitches West, and have a ton of photos to post. Unfortunately, I don't have the cord for the camera with me, so it's going to be a day or so until I get them up. In the meantime, here is a pattern I purchased at the show for ballet flats from Cocoknits.
