cocoknits
I just got home from Stitches West, and have a ton of photos to post. Unfortunately, I don't have the cord for the camera with me, so it's going to be a day or so until I get them up. In the meantime, here is a pattern I purchased at the show for ballet flats from Cocoknits.

carrot bread

It was cold and rainy today - perfect baking weather. I decided to make carrot bread, from my favorite cookbook, How to Cook Everything, by Mark Bittman.
Carrot Bread
2 cups flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 eggs
1/2 stick butter (melted)
1 1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup grated carrots
Mix all dry ingredients. Mix all wet ingredients, then fold into dry ingredients. Mix just until combined. Pour into loaf pan and bake for an hour to an hour and a half at 350 degrees, until a toothpick comes out clean.

san francisco graphic design

I took a mini field trip to the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design to see their Graphic Design exhibit, featuring twelve local designers and design studios. I was blown away by both the quality and amount of work that was featured, from firms such as Elixir, Volume, Paper Plane Studio, Chen Design Associates and Chronicle Books.

the charm school dropout

The Charm School Dropout is the work of North Carolina artist Sarah Collier. She creates limited edition digital paintings and mixed media artwork from collected advertising images from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. I've always been a big fan of collage work and I really love the way that Sarah has combined image, text and color. I think this one is my favorite:

julia rothman for urban outfitters

I had a hell of a time tracking down this canister by the amazingly talented illustrator (and friend!) Julia Rothman, designed for Urban Outfitters. First, they sent me the wrong one, then it arrived broken....arghhh. It was worth the wait - I love this freaking thing. I can't seem to find it online, but they were able (eventually) to order it for me through the SF store.
coraline
Jeff and I went to see Coraline this weekend, a truly spectacular visual treat. As a completely handmade production, even Coraline's tiny sweaters were custom made for the film. The above video is a demonstration on how micro-knitter Althea Crome made one of the key costumes for the film.
