the elevated acre

While waiting for the ferry to Sandy Hook, we stumbled across an escalator and one of those NYC park signs pointing up. Never one to shy away from seemingly isolated, potentially fascinating spots, I marched right up those stairs to see where they led (common sense be dammed!).
Situated at the top of the stairs was a beautiful garden complete with large grass (astroturf) lawn...fairly unusual for lower Manhattan. I did a little research and discovered the space is known as the Elevated Acre and can be rented out for parties and events.
The space overlooks New York's original first police precinct. Currently, the building functions at the NYC Police Museum.
All photos by me.
