More scarves! Scarf shop makes hand dyed cotton scarves in sizes ranging from long and skinny to giant. I'm partial to the big size in fuchsia, grey or fog, since my current scarf collection includes orange, brown, rose, taupe, yellow, olive green, red, beige, floral, and more floral....wow, that is a lot of scarves....!

getty center
Thinking that the Getty Center would provide respite from the 100º weekend weather, we took a trip west. Ironically, I spent most of the time outdoors and in the gardens...so much for taking advantage of the a/c!

fun with bunting
After hacking off the bottom of this dress, I used the remaining material to make bunting for my fireplace. I like that the color kinda blends in with the rock.

crossroads of the world
Crossroads of the World is said to be America's first outdoor shopping mall when it opened in 1936. The main building (above and below) is supposed to look like an ocean liner.
Today, the surrounding cottage-style bungalows house mostly office space.
Full of painted and tiled details, the complex has been used in many movies over the years. They just don't make them like they used to!

herb & dorothy
Herb & Dorothy is a documentary chronicling the inspirational life of the Vogels, who collected one of the most important collections of minimal and conceptual art. Of meager means, they lived on Dorothy's salary (a librarian) while using Herb's income (a postal worker) to purchase work. They had two rules - the piece had to be affordable, and it had to fit into their one bedroom Manhattan apartment. By the time the documentary was made in 2008, their collection had grown to over four thousand works. In 1992, they donated their entire collection to the National Gallery.

tinga
Relatively new Tinga is pretty delicious, although I am somewhat swayed because it's both walkable from my apartment and reminds me of Nopalito. On a plus side, I really enjoyed the watermelon lemonade....
...their extremely spicy pibil tacos...
and the exterior Wooly Pockets!
The downside? No booze! And I didn't love the chicken taco, so don't get that one if you go.

retro gallery/filament lighting
I must have walked by Retro Gallery/Filament Lighting a bunch of times (it's about 3 blocks from my apartment) but whatever possessed me to finally go in was rewarded with the most amazing vintage selection of vases, ceramics, lamps and chandeliers I have ever seen.
