People are doing the best stuff with Gocco these days. This might be a little OCD, but it's so freaking cute I don't even know what to do with myself.

pecan pie
I love pecan pie. Been talking about making it since I was the lucky recipient of some fresh pecans back in...oh...December 07. Oh, well - no time like the present!
Here is what you get when you make Vanilla Frozen Yogurt:
A graham cracker crust:
And some delicious pecan pie filling:
The result!
I managed to overcook it a bit, but I am definitely motivated to try again. With Jewish Christmas (a.k.a. Thanksgiving) approaching, I'm ready to give it another go. I highly recommend my recipe, from How To Cook Everything, one of the best cookbooks I have even invested in. I changed to crust to graham cracker, which I thought was pretty delicious. I would also change the frozen yogurt base to vanilla yogurt instead of plain, as it came out a little too Pink Berry.

halloween in the cv
Since I am not going to be in town for Halloween next week, I am going to miss the Belvedere Street Halloween celebration in Cole Valley. If you've never been, I highly recommend it. The street is closed down to cars and people go all out on the decorating, turning their garages into haunted houses and creating spooky scenes in their front windows. It's very tame compared to the Castro, but still entertaining. There weren't a ton of places decorated yet, but those that were looked great.
Scary!! What's more terrifying than Sarah Palin?

los angeles: empiric
Another exciting Southland discovery was Empiric, a amazing store full of vintage and new furniture, accessories, and various curios that result in true design and decorating inspiration. Empiric started out as a printmaking studio, and later expanded to retail and design. Their collection is varied and unique, full of treasures both fantastically gorgeous and beautifully bizarre, all poetically merchandised.

los angeles: denmark 50
My Los Angeles excursions are never complete with out the "mission" as my mother calls it. This time she was on a quest for a credenza/dresser/shelving unit for her guest room. Since we are both enamored with Mid-Century modern design, we were thrilled to discover Denmark 50, a mecca for furniture, ceramics and household items brought in straight from Denmark. The prices were a little high for my taste, but to be fair, everything is designer and the showroom is on Melrose.

julia, you're the best
I was beyond thrilled to discover that my package from Julia Rothman contained not only her amazing Luxury Apartments print, but also one of my favorite pieces from her recent show at Rare Device.
It was extra exciting to put the hangers I bought at the flea market to use. Good idea, right? I copied it from here.
I haven't hung the shoes, as I just can't decide what the perfect spot is yet.
Luxury Apartments print is available for purchase here.

usps, you're the best
Yeah, you'd be excited too if you got home and found a tube of goodies waiting for you from one of your favorite artists. She even has her own custom packing tape!
What's inside, you say? You'll just have to wait and see.....

frank chimero, part 1
Frank Chimero is a Missouri based illustrator, designer, and now, my second favorite thing from the Show-Me State (Dorrances, you're still #1). Granted, I haven't tried frozen custard yet, but I'm feeling pretty good about Frank. There is so much great work, that I am going to break it up into two posts.
First up are The States. The rules are simple: take the silhouette of a US state, and fit something inside of it. There are 15 states so far, click here to see the rest. Here are a couple of my favorites:
